FAQs about our Escape Rooms

Is it scary?

No. Escape rooms are not generally scary unless it is part of the theme (e.g. a haunted house theme). Neither of our current themes are intended to scare people, there is nothing that will jump out at you and there are no loud unexpected noises. There are lights on in the room, it may be dimly lit but not dark.

Will we be locked in?

No, we do not lock our rooms. If you want to leave at any point you can simply push the door open.

Why do I need to arrive 10mins early?

Before you go into the room we need to give you a short briefing to explain the rules of the game and to tell you the story/set the scene for the game you are playing. This usually takes 5-10mins. If you arrive late you will still get this briefing but we may have to restrict the time you have in the room so that it does not run over into the next teams booking.

What if I need to cancel my booking?

No problem, just give us a call on 03 319 5897 or send us an email info@emporiumbrewing.co.nz. Please give us as much notice as possible though as we often have a waiting list and would love to be able to offer your booking to someone else.

Is it suitable for children?

Yes, but only with adult supervision. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, this is due to the difficulty level of the puzzles. Children will still enjoy many aspects of the games but will require help with some puzzles.

Can I bring my baby/toddler?

Yes, front pack carriers are probably best for babies as there is not a huge amount of room for a pram/stroller. Toddlers may wish to bring in a toy to keep them entertained whilst you play the game otherwise than can get bored. There are also lots of things they can grab & potentially break so please keep an eye on them. No charge for children under 5.

There are 7 of us can we squeeze an extra person in the room?

Unfortunately not. The maximum number of players for each room is 6 people. This is not only due to the limited amount of space in the room but also due to the amount of puzzles. We want everyone to have the best experience possible from playing our games and if we cram too many people in the room there will always be someone who doesn't get a chance to participate fully.
If you are a big group we recommend you split in to two teams and one team plays mini golf whilst the first team play the escape room, and then swap over. Mini golf usually takes a similar amount of time so it works well. Plus, Mini golf is half price if you play the escape room!

What does it cost?

It depends on how many play the room. A 2 player game is $35 per person, 3-4 players $30 per person, 5-6 players $25 per person.
We do not offer a child price, cost is per player. Children under 5 are free though.

How long does it take?

We give you 60 minutes to complete each room but you may be able to do it a lot quicker than that. Currently the average time for our gangster room is 56 mins however the record is 26 mins!!
We recommend you allow 1.5 hours from time of arrival until time of leaving as there will be a briefing at the start, and most teams like a debrief and photo at the end also.

Can we take a beer in to the escape room?

No, sorry. With the exception of bottled water we do not allow any food or drink in the escape rooms.
We do have a bar on site though, so either arrive early and have a pre-game drink or celebrate your success in the bar afterwards.

Can we split in to 2 groups and play both rooms at the same time?

Unfortunately we are not set up to be able to run both rooms at the same time. If you want to split in to teams it is better that you book the same room back to back, it is a fairer challenge that way too (the two rooms have different difficulty levels and often take different amounts of time to complete). Although we have set time slots for the games you will not necessarily have to wait for the booked time. If the first team completes the game in good time, the second team can go in as soon as the room is reset.
